Mike Sharp Recognized for 25 Years of State Service

Mike Sharp has worked for the Conservation Commission for the past 14 years. He began his career at the Commission in June 1991 as assistant director in the Abandoned Mine Land Reclamation Division. In October 2001 Sharp was named director of the Commission’s Information Technology Division.

Mike performs a number of jobs for the Commission. For the past several years he has been program manager for the Commissions s reclamation work in the Tar Creek area of Ottawa County. He also chairs the Geographic Information Systems Council of the State of Oklahoma of which the Commission is the lead agency. Included in Mike’s 25 years of service to the State of Oklahoma are three-plus years he served as Secretary to the Commissioners of the Land Office. Mike also worked for seven plus years as a Teaching and Research Assistant at Oklahoma State University in both the Animal Science and Biochemistry Departments. Sharp is a native of Nowata County where he previously farmed. He served on the Nowata County Conservation District Board from 1984 to 1987 and also was Area 3 Director for the Oklahoma Association of Conservation Districts. Conservation is a tradition in the Sharp family as both Mike’s father Bill and mother Pat are members of the Oklahoma Conservation Hall of Fame. Mike is a graduate of Oklahoma State University where he eamed a bachelors and a doctorate degree.
